6 Random Things

I got tagged by the incredible MarySusan ... so I'm to reveal six random facts about myself and then tag six others. Eep.

1. I did American Civil War reenacting for about five years, and I sewed most of my undergarments and outerwear. I wore my stuff periodically this summer, when my 18th century work costume was in the wash.

2. I started reading Agatha Christie novels around the age of 10. Needless to say, some things went completely over my head. Why did I start reading the Queen of Mystery so young? My mother did not want me reading the paperback Nancy Drew novels because she heard there might be sex in them. So ... she started me on Agatha Christie ... I'm still a bit confused about her line of reasoning, but I credit my mother for instilling my love of mystery novels.

3. I wear a size 10 shoe in women's. I think that translates to a size 8.5 in men's, which was *very* handy when I knitted socks for an ex-boyfriend ... who wore a size 8.5 in men's. First pair of socks I ever knit, and they were damn comfy. I hope he still wears them.
4. My first and last official baby-sitting job was in ninth grade. ...the parents told me that I was the first sitter they had who wasn't crying when *they* got home. I told them I was going to join a convent.

5. I'm on a perpetual book diet (basically, buy the book if I can't get it from the library, or I HAVE TO HAVE IT --- all seven Harry Potters and the Chicago Manual of Style ... well, that was mostly for grad school, but still). So whenever I'm in a bookstore, if I see a book I'm interested in, I write it's title and author on whatever piece of paper I have available. I once called my school voicemail to record a potential interest. It was Lee Tulloch's Fabulous Nobodies, I still have not read it, and I did that as I was bereft of pen and paper.

6. I am very klutzy. I am very good when handling antiques, archival materials, dresses that haven't been worn in over 130 years ... but I'm constantly banging into tables, chairs, and walking into doors. I don't know how I get half of my bruises.

I'm tagging Jeanna, billi wallpaper, lisawj, lyndseybyrd, majicou83, and Katiekins.

Hi Miss Kate,
I somehow got to your blog because my sister (a knitter) is working on her masters in Lib. too and speaking of Nancy Drew everyone knows Ned hardly even held her hand.
However I too love 30's mysteries. Rex Stout, Richard and Frances Lockridge, Dorothy Sayers and more recently Donna Andrews.
You have a nice blog.
We blog at 2knitwits.blogspot.com
