First Finished Project of 09

I proudly present my silk and mohair Edgar:
Finished this afternoon whilst watching the pilot episode of X-Files, I bound off, and realized that I had twelve yards of the silk left (meaning I could have had 14 diamonds instead of 13. Alas). I have a ton of mohair left over, and I plan to maybe pair that with some yarn I picked up in Saratoga Springs this summer.

Finished stats for my lovely Edgar.
Started sometime in March 2008, finished January 5, 2009.
US 8 needles
Used not even a full skein of Colinette Parisienne in the Marble colourway, and about 114 yards of Colinette Tao in Coral Reef.
Yarns purchased at Knit and Be Happy in New Paltz, NY.

The Great TSA

Whilst driving to the library, I was thinking about knitting as a hobby.

It's not. It's more of an addiction for me. On my attempt to visit Alissa last night, I looked through my stash and knitting basket like a woman possessed, trying to find idiot knitting.*

Now I'll be flying to Rochester on Tuesday, and I have the same problem. What knitting can I bring with me ... that will get through airport security ... and last me until Saturday night when I return? I restarted my silk and mohair Edgar that I haven't touched since March or April. I'm using veeeeeery long US 8 needles, that while plastic, are veeeeeery long. There is nothing on the TSA website about proper length of needles, just that circs should be less than 31 inches long ... and plastic or bamboo (there goes my 40 inch Addi Turbos).

On a slightly related note, I went to the library today and came home with two hardcover books. Oh yes. I'll be awesome with my nonfiction medieval book and my fantasy book.

(The reindeer that live in my backyard.)

*Idiot knitting, for me, consists of baby hats. Very very simple baby hats. You cast on. You knit for five inches. You start to decrease. The five inches of stockinette can be done anywhere. It is fantastic.

Quick knit and silly modeling

Me, modeling the scarf...

The Edgar scarf for my mother is finished. I was surprised at how quickly I knit it up, but pleased with the results. Only dismay? Realizing that dry-clean only is recommended. Sometime this week I'll give it a nice bath in Wool-Lite and hope for the best (and hope the cat fur from the Time Lord's cats comes out).

My sleeping dog, unwittingly wearing the scarf...

Same name, different projects

So if anyone has been keeping track of my progress bar, Edgar shrunk! The pink mohair and silk combination is still languishing in my knitting bag. I just started a new scarf :)

Back in April, after a visit to Knitty City in Manhattan, I picked up a skein of Tonalita Trendsetter Yarns in the Rio colourway.

Word to the wise: do *not* wind this into a center-pull ball. I spent several hours (over the course of two days) undoing the big knotty mess.

Frogging

Well, not yet. In an hour or so.

The Monkey sock does not fit, it's too tight around the ankle. I bought size 2.75 dpns today, and I'm planning to restart the sock. Thankfully, the sock has me just a *little* obsessed, so I should be okay. :)

Obviously, I won't have a finished pair by the end of the month!

I did knit a few rows on Edgar this past weekend though, and I just love the feel of the silk and mohair running through my fingers.

Baby, it's still cold outside

Oh, what is this?

It's the beginnings of an Edgar scarf. I am using two of the yarns I bought at Knit and Be Happy. It will *definitely* be longer than a cravat; it'll either be a medium or extra-long scarf (all depends on the silk).

I paired the two Colinettes together, the Parisienne in the Marble colorway, and the TAO in coral reef. The mohair and silk feel divine. The mohair getting tangled up on itself is a pain.

As if I don't have enough to do

I feel like quoting Moritz from Spring Awakening, when Ilse asks why he cannot walk her home. He just states all the school work he has to do (and trust me, it's a lot). This is right before they break off into "Don't Do Sadness" and "Blue Wind."

I have several chapters to read and study tonight, a sock to finish, two projects for library school that are overdue ...

And yet I'm looking at knitting patterns, and realizing I can use up some of my stash by knitting an Edgar scarf. I've done it before, it's cute, it's quick, and it's interesting to knit. My knitpicks order for Besotted and the DNA scarf won't be arriving until sometime mid-week, at earliest.
